Sharing Flights

📢 - INFO

Public share links are the single easiest way to show a flight to someone who doesn't use StolWRX. You generate a link, send it to a friend, and they open the same 3D view — track, photos, waypoints, everything — in a read-only browser tab.

What Gets Shared

When you generate a public link for one or more flights, the recipient sees:

  • The flight tracks you included, in their original colors.
  • The strip chart for each flight.
  • Track photos attached to those flights.
  • The time-range crop you had applied when generating the link — the recipient can not see any flight data outside the crop.
  • Any waypoints that are public or that you specifically shared publicly.

What the recipient cannot do:

  • Sign in or post anything.
  • Upload a photo, add a waypoint, or edit anything.
  • See other flights, waypoints, or photos that you haven't included in the share.
  1. Load the flight(s) you want to share.
  2. Use the Time Range Scrubber to crop to the section you want to expose.
  3. Open the Tools menu → Share flight track publicly.
  4. StolWRX captures a preview image of the current map view, creates a share token, and opens the share dialog.

The Share Dialog

The share dialog shows:

  • The preview image — what recipients will see as the link's OpenGraph thumbnail when pasted into Slack, Messages, WhatsApp, etc.
  • The full share URL — a /shared/TOKEN link under your StolWRX domain.
  • Copy link button — copies the URL to the clipboard.
  • Facebook share — opens Facebook's share dialog pre-filled with the link.
  • Download PNG — downloads the preview image as a PNG.
  • Revoke link — invalidates the token so the URL stops working.

Multiple flights can be included in a single share link — the share dialog lists each flight token-linked so the recipient sees them together.

📌 - TIP

The share link only works as long as the flights behind it still exist in your account. Deleting a shared flight immediately breaks its share links.

If you want to stop a link from working (accidental share, out-of-date track, etc.), click Revoke link in the share dialog. The URL starts returning a 404 immediately. You can generate a new link at any time — it will have a new token.

You can revoke any of your active share links from the share dialog header, which lists all your current public links.

What the Recipient Sees

The recipient opens the URL and lands on the public shared view, which is a stripped-down version of the main StolWRX analysis screen:

  • The 3D map with your flights drawn.
  • The strip chart and time-range scrubber.
  • Photo markers along the track with the lightbox.

They do not see:

  • Any of your other flights or waypoints.
  • Any UI for uploading, editing, or creating anything.
  • Your profile or subscription details.

See Public Shared View for the recipient's perspective.

Social Previews

Links include an OpenGraph image (the preview PNG StolWRX captured when the link was created), a title, and a description. Pasting the URL into Slack, Twitter, iMessage, Discord, or Facebook renders a rich preview card with the map image.

If you want a different preview image, generate a new link after panning, zooming, or cropping to a nicer framing — the preview captures whatever the map looks like at the moment you click Share.
